Install button for installing Wix stays invisible #4847
Comments
I tried installing 3.9 and that works.
|
3.8 and 3.9 hide the install button. 3.8 hides the update button. 3.9 changes it to read "up to date." 3.11 should be more explicit (maybe replace Install button with explanatory text).
|
FYI - This happens in my experience when a bundle with external web staged packages is run on a system which cannot access the atom feed. When there are also no local packages staged, Install and Update are not possible. Until network access is resolved or packages are staged locally (after using the -layout on a connected pc and moving the packages locally) the only remaining options are to view the news, legal, or exit.

That will at least display the status in the WiX UI. As for Sebastiaan's specific issue, without logs it's really just speculation as to why the BA is hiding the install button.
|
I think the bar is too highlighted (literally). What if it had the "glass" background and were like a status bar on the bottom? This makes me want to redesign the UI... |
@barnson I can move this to the bottom, and I can shrink the font some, but if I were to make it glass, then how would the text at all be visible? |
I was thinking glass in that it wouldn't look so much like another row in the grid of buttons (i.e., with borders). No big deal, really. |
@barnson , How about (I put it up in the area where the title would normally go.) |
PR updated, note this doesn't fix the missing install button if you don't have network access but will display the status in the "title". If we want a generic blurb of text in the install area if neither install nor update are available, provide the text and I can update the BA to support it. |
I try to install Wix on a new computer (wix38.exe). In the past I succeeded on another computer. Now I get the install screen but the install button (in the middle with the gear) does not become visible. I do see it checks for updates and that button vanishes afterwards.
I also tried running the installer as administrator with no success. I am able to install other software on the computer as administrator.
Greetings,
Sebastiaan Aarts
